Biostimulators

Biostimulators are advanced cosmetic treatments that stimulate your body's natural collagen production, providing a non-surgical solution for skin rejuvenation and volume restoration. Unlike traditional fillers, which provide immediate volume, biostimulators work gradually beneath the skin, improving texture, firmness, and elasticity over time. By promoting collagen growth, these treatments help restore a more youthful appearance and reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Ideal for those seeking long-lasting, natural results with minimal downtime, biostimulators are a cutting-edge solution for age-related volume loss.

About Biostimulators

WHAT IT IS

Biostimulators are injectable treatments that gradually stimulate your body’s natural collagen production, helping to restore volume and improve skin texture over time. Unlike traditional fillers, which add immediate volume, biostimulators work beneath the surface to support long-term skin rejuvenation from within.

They’re commonly used to treat areas of facial volume loss, soften deeper wrinkles, and improve overall skin firmness and elasticity—delivering a more youthful, lifted look that develops gradually and lasts.

We offer Sculptra®, a leading biostimulator known for its ability to produce natural-looking, long-lasting results. It’s a great option for those looking to boost collagen, improve skin quality, and achieve a subtle transformation that builds over a series of treatments.

HOW IT WORKS

Sculptra is an injectable cosmetic treatment designed to stimulate the body's natural collagen production, gradually restoring facial volume and improving skin texture over time.

The active ingredient in Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biodegradable synthetic polymer. When injected into the deeper layers of the skin, PLLA microparticles act as a scaffold, triggering a mild inflammatory response that activates fibroblasts—cells responsible for collagen production. As the body metabolizes the PLLA over time, new collagen fibers form, gradually enhancing the skin's structural integrity and volume.

Unlike traditional dermal fillers that provide immediate volume by physically filling in wrinkles or hollow areas, Sculptra's effects develop gradually. Patients typically undergo a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart. Visible improvements in skin texture and volume usually emerge within a few months, with optimal results appearing after the full course of treatments. The rejuvenating effects of Sculptra can last up to two years or more.

Sculptra is commonly used to address volume loss and wrinkles in areas such as: cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds (NLF), and jawline.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Preparation:

  • Consultation with your Provider to establish your desired treatment sites and her recommended amount of dermal filler needed to help you achieve your goal.

  • Risk factors such as recent/planned dental work, recent/planned vaccines, health history, recent alcohol or NSAID use, and past experiences with dermal fillers and other aesthetic services will be discussed.

  • Review and sign consents and ask any final questions you may have prior to treatment.

  • Photos may be taken to document the effect of the treatment.

Treatment:

  • Your skin will be double cleansed with a gentle skin cleanser and alcohol.

  • Your skin will be marked with a washable marker or pencil to establish the optimal injection points. Adjustments to these sites will be made to minimize the risk of bruising.

  • If your Provider plans to use a cannula (blunt needle), your skin may be injected with Lidocaine (or a similar alternative).

  • Your Sculptra will be injected using a small needle or cannula.

  • Using arnica gel or another lubricant, your Provider will model for you the technique for the 5-minute massage.

  • Your Provider will cleanse your skin again and advise you as to next steps.

  • Photos may be taken to document the effect of the treatment.

Aftercare:

  • Immediately after:

  • Make a plan to massage your face throughout the day for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for the next 5 days.

  • Avoid makeup for about 24 hours to avoid infection.

  • If you experience bruising, you may use a cold compress (ice) gently on the area for 10–15 minutes at a time during the first day.

  • Try to sleep with your head raised on pillows to help reduce swelling.

  • Avoid alcohol, salty foods, and heavy exercise for 24–48 hours as they can make swelling and bruising worse.

  • You will feel like you have additional facial volume for several days until the sterile water in the Sculptra is absorbed by the body.

  • Use Arnica cream or tablets to help with bruising.

  • Avoid hot environments like saunas, hot tubs, tanning beds, or hot yoga for at least 2–3 days.

  • You may have a facial or massage as soon as 5 days following your treatment.

  • Avoid dental work, even dental cleanings, and vaccines for 1 month.

  • Know that it is normal to have mild swelling and tenderness for a few days.

  • Stay hydrated and be patient. Sculptra results take time.

Follow-up:

  • Final results may take 4 weeks or more to develop.

  • Call your Provider right away if you notice:

    • Strong pain or swelling

    • Skin turning very pale or dark

    • Blisters or signs of infection (like pus or fever)

    • Lumps and bumps that do not subside 5 days after treatment.

BIOSTIMULATOR BENEFITS

  • Long-Lasting Results – Stimulates collagen for improvements that can last up to 2 years.

FAQS

  • No, Sculptra is not a traditional filler. While it’s injected like one, it doesn’t instantly add volume. Instead, it’s a biostimulator that helps your body gradually rebuild its own collagen. This leads to smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin over time.

  • Results appear gradually over weeks to months as new collagen forms. You’ll typically need 2–3 sessions spaced about a month apart. Once full results develop, they can last up to 2 years or more, making Sculptra one of the longest-lasting injectable options.

  • Sculptra is great for restoring volume in the cheeks, temples, jawline, and lower face, and is often used for non-surgical buttock enhancement or improving skin texture in areas like the chest or arms. It’s ideal for patients seeking subtle, natural-looking rejuvenation.

  • Side effects are usually mild, such as swelling, redness, or bruising. The key aftercare step is to massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days to help evenly distribute the product and reduce the risk of lumps or nodules.

  • Hyaluronic acid fillers provide instant results, while Sculptra works more gradually by stimulating collagen production. Think of fillers as quick fixes and Sculptra as a long-term solution that improves overall skin quality and volume over time.
