Microneedling
Microneedling is a versatile, minimally invasive treatment that harnesses the body's natural healing abilities to stimulate collagen and elastin production. This process helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and other skin imperfections, resulting in smoother, more youthful skin.
About Microneedling
WHAT IT IS
Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses tiny, controlled needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. These small punctures stimulate your body’s natural healing process, encouraging collagen and elastin production. This multipurpose treatment leverages the body’s natural healing process to address various skin conditions, such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven texture. To achieve optimal results, a series of multiple treatments is typically recommended.
HOW IT WORKS
Unlike RF microneedling, traditional microneedling does not use heat, which means it doesn’t dehydrate the skin through thermal injury. This makes it safe for all skin types—including those prone to melasma—and reduces the risk of irritation or pigmentation issues. It also typically results in less downtime, so you can get back to your routine faster.
This treatment helps improve skin texture, reduce fine lines, minimize the appearance of scars, and even out skin tone—resulting in smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin. Microneedling can also enhance the absorption of serums and other skincare products, boosting their effectiveness.
To further enhance your results, we often pair microneedling with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma), using your body’s own growth factors to speed healing and maximize skin rejuvenation.
We customize microneedling sessions based on your unique skin concerns and goals, helping you achieve refreshed, radiant skin with minimal downtime.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Consultation:
Meet with the provider to review your skin concerns, goals, and medical history. The provider will assess your skin type, any contraindications (such as active acne, certain medications, or skin conditions), and determine if microneedling is appropriate for your needs. A personalized treatment plan is developed, including the number of sessions recommended.
Preparation:
On the day of treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove makeup, oils, and impurities. A topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to minimize discomfort. This numbing process typically takes 20–30 minutes. Once numbing is complete, the cream is removed, and the skin is disinfected. If you would prefer more numbing time, arrangements can be made for you to numb at home.
Procedure:
A microneedling device—such as the SkinPen or Collagen Pin—is used to stamp tiny, sterile needles vertically into the skin, creating controlled micro-injuries. These microchannels trigger the body’s natural healing response and stimulate collagen and elastin production. A serum—such as hyaluronic acid, a growth factor solution, or Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) derived from the client’s own blood—may be applied during or immediately after the treatment to enhance results and aid healing.
During Treatment:
The provider systematically stamps the microneedling device over the treatment area, adjusting depth and speed based on skin thickness and sensitivity. Most patients describe the sensation as light pressure or scratching. Mild pinpoint bleeding may occur, which is normal and part of the healing response.
Aftercare:
Post-treatment, the skin may appear red or flushed, similar to a mild sunburn, and feel tight or sensitive. A calming serum or post-procedure balm is applied to soothe the skin. Clients are advised to avoid sun exposure, makeup, sweating, and irritating or antiinflammatory skincare products for at least 24–72 hours. Avoid NSAIDs (i.e. Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Excedrin) for 7-10 days following treatment as they can disrupt platelet signaling. Avoid icing the treatment area. Gentle cleansing and hydrating products should be used, along with a broad-spectrum SPF once the skin barrier begins to recover.
Follow-Up:
A follow-up appointment may be scheduled to assess the healing process and results. Most clients benefit from a series of 3–6 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart for optimal results. The provider will adjust future treatments as needed based on how the skin responds.
FAQS
-
Regular microneedling uses tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production naturally. RF (radiofrequency) microneedling combines this needling with radiofrequency energy, which heats the deeper layers of the skin to further boost collagen remodeling and tightening.
However, RF microneedling is not ideal for all skin types. The heat can dehydrate the dermis, potentially exacerbating signs of aging like fine lines or crepiness—especially in thinner or more sensitive skin. For many patients, traditional microneedling offers excellent results without the added risk of thermal damage.
-
Most patients find microneedling very tolerable. A topical numbing cream is applied before the treatment to minimize discomfort. You may feel a mild prickling or tingling sensation during the procedure, but it’s generally not painful. Afterward, the skin may feel like a mild sunburn for a day or two.

Downtime is minimal. You may experience redness, mild swelling, and slight sensitivity for 1 to 3 days after treatment—similar to a sunburn. Most patients return to normal activities within 24–48 hours. It’s important to avoid makeup, sun exposure, and intense workouts for 24-72 hours post-treatment.
