About Neuromodulators
WHAT IT IS
In use since the 1970’s, Neuromodulators—such as Xeomin®, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, Botox®, Letybo® and Daxxify®—are injectable treatments that temporarily relax targeted muscles. They’re most commonly used to smooth dynamic wrinkles caused by facial expressions, like frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines, helping you achieve a refreshed, more youthful look.
You’ll often hear these treatments casually referred to as “tox,” since they all work in similar ways and belong to the same family of products.
Beyond aesthetics, neuromodulators also offer therapeutic benefits. They’re frequently used to relieve muscle tension in areas like the jaw, neck, and shoulders, and are FDA-approved for conditions such as chronic migraines. They can also help reduce excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) by calming overactive sweat glands.
We carry a range of neuromodulators, each with its own subtle differences. We’ll work closely with you to choose the option that best fits your goals, preferences, and natural facial anatomy.
HOW IT WORKS
Neuromodulators help reduce wrinkles by targeting the underlying muscle activity that causes them. Wrinkles often form from repeated muscle movement, like frowning, smiling, or squinting, which creates lines in the skin over time. When a neuromodulator is injected, it blocks the signals between nerves and the muscles, preventing those muscles from contracting. As a result, the muscles relax, which allows the skin above them to smooth out. This leads to wrinkles softening or fading, and it also helps prevent new ones from forming. The effects are temporary, typically lasting 3 to 4 months, after which muscle activity gradually returns unless the treatment is repeated. Integrative therapies, like microneedling, dermal filler, biologics or biostimulators may help improve the effects of your tox treatment.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Consultation:
Consultation with your Provider to establish your desired treatment sites and her recommended dose.
Review and sign consents and ask any final questions you may have prior to treatment.
Photos may be taken to document the effect of the treatment.
Treatment:
Your skin will be cleansed with a gentle skin cleanser.
Your skin will be marked with a washable marker or pencil to establish the optimal injection points. Adjustments to these sites will be made to minimize the risk of bruising.
Your tox will be injected using a tiny needle.
Your Provider will cleanse your skin again and advise you as to next steps.
Aftercare:
Unless otherwise instructed, avoid wearing tight hats or pressing or rubbing the injection sites for 24 hours. Gentle cleansing of the face at the end of the day is acceptable.
Avoid strenuous exercise for the rest of the day following tox injections. A walk or some stretching is acceptable.
If you are having another facial or massage service, make sure it is scheduled before or at least 1 day after your tox injection.
If you have never had tox before or if your dose has been adjusted (+/-), set a 2-week complimentary follow-up appointment to have your dose checked.
Set your next tox appointment in approximately 12 weeks (+/-) to maintain the look and to improve the outcome of wrinkle relaxation and fine line healing.
For most wrinkle relaxers, effects take 7-14 days to develop, peak at around 30 days, and will taper slowly over the next 3 months.
Tox effect has a direct and positive correlation with dose. Dose and duration are also positively correlated. Simply put, more units will create more wrinkle relaxation and the effect will last longer than when fewer units are used.

FAQS
-
The amount of treatment needed depends on several factors, including the area(s) being treated (such as 11s, forehead, crow’s feet), the strength of your facial muscles, and the depth of your existing lines. A complimentary consultation with our practitioners will help create a personalized plan for you.
-
Neuromodulators work by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles when you smile, frown, or raise your eyebrows. They temporarily block nerve signals to these muscles, which softens dynamic lines—especially on the forehead, between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), and around the eyes (crow’s feet).
-
Results typically appear within 3 to 7 days after treatment, with full effect in about 2 weeks, and they last about 3 to 4 months. Some patients find the effects last longer with regular treatments over time.
-
Not when done correctly. A skilled injector will use precise dosing and placement to relax targeted muscles while preserving your natural facial expressions. The goal is a refreshed, rested look, not a frozen one.
-
While Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® are all neurotoxin injectables used to treat and prevent wrinkles, their compositions slightly differ. Our practitioners will explain the differences and help you choose the best product for your needs.
-
Most patients say neuromodulator injections feel like a quick pinch or mosquito bite. The needles used are very fine, and the procedure takes only a few minutes. Discomfort is minimal and doesn’t typically require numbing.
-
Side effects are usually mild and temporary. You may experience slight redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. Rare side effects can include drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow, but these are uncommon and usually temporary. Choosing a qualified injector is key to minimizing risks.
