About Dermal Fillers
WHAT IT IS
Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. They’re most commonly used to plump lips, soften nasolabial folds (smile lines), lift cheeks, and define the jawline or chin—helping you look refreshed, balanced, and naturally rejuvenated.
Most fillers are made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance naturally found in the body that helps keep skin hydrated and supple. The results are immediate and can last several months to over a year, depending on the product and treatment area.
We offer a range of trusted dermal filler brands, including Restylane®, RHA®, and Juvéderm®—each designed with different properties to match specific goals, skin types, and facial areas. Whether you're looking for soft, subtle enhancement or more structured definition, we’ll work with you to select the ideal filler for your unique features and aesthetic vision.
HOW IT WORKS
Hyaluronic acid (HA)-based dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body, particularly in the skin and connective tissues, known for its ability to retain moisture—up to 1,000 times its weight in water. This moisture-binding capacity makes it essential for maintaining skin hydration, plumpness, and elasticity. When injected, dermal fillers provide immediate volume and support, effectively filling in wrinkles, folds, or hollow areas such as the cheeks, lips, nasolabial folds, and under the eyes. In addition to the physical volume they provide, these fillers also attract and retain water at the injection site, enhancing skin hydration and contributing to a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
Some dermal fillers are softer and better suited for delicate areas like the lips, while others are denser and designed for deeper volumizing effects in areas like the cheeks or jawline.
The results of HA filler injections are visible immediately and typically last between six to eighteen months, depending on the product used, the treatment area, and individual factors such as metabolism. One of the key benefits of HA fillers is their safety profile—they are biocompatible, have a low risk of allergic reactions, and are reversible with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which can dissolve the filler if needed. Overall, HA-based dermal fillers offer a non-surgical, effective way to enhance facial aesthetics with natural-looking and immediate results.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Preparation:
Consultation with your Provider to establish your desired treatment sites and her recommended amount of dermal filler needed to help you achieve your goal.
Risk factors such as recent/planned dental work, recent/planned vaccines, health history, recent alcohol or NSAID use, and past experiences with dermal fillers and other aesthetic services will be discussed.
Review and sign consents and ask any final questions you may have prior to treatment.
Photos may be taken to document the effect of the treatment.
Treatment:
Your skin might be numbed with a topical numbing cream for ~15 minutes.
Your skin will be double cleansed with a gentle skin cleanser and alcohol.
Your skin will be marked with a washable marker or pencil to establish the optimal injection points. Adjustments to these sites will be made to minimize the risk of bruising.
If your Provider plans to use a cannula (blunt needle), your skin may be injected with Lidocaine (or a similar alternative).
Your dermal filler will be injected using a small needle or cannula.
Your Provider will cleanse your skin again and advise you as to next steps.
Photos may be taken to document the effect of the treatment.
Aftercare:
Immediately after:
Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours unless your provider says it's okay.
Avoid makeup for about 24 hours to avoid infection.
Use a cold compress (ice) gently on the area for 10–15 minutes at a time during the first day.
Try to sleep with your head raised on pillows to help reduce swelling.
Avoid alcohol, salty foods, and heavy exercise for 24–48 hours as they can make swelling and bruising worse.
Use Arnica cream or tablets to help with bruising.
Avoid hot environments like saunas, hot tubs, tanning beds, or hot yoga for at least 2–3 days.
Don’t get facials, massages for about 1–2 weeks, especially near the treated area.
Avoid dental work, even dental cleanings, and vaccines for 1 month.
Know that it is normal to have mild swelling and tenderness for a few days.
Know that small lumps can be normal for several weeks as the dermal filler settles into your tissues.
Stay hydrated and be patient. Drinking plenty of water helps your filler look better.
Follow-up:
Final results may take up to 2 weeks to fully settle. Some unevenness or puffiness at first is normal; however, call your Provider right away if you notice:
Strong pain or swelling
Skin turning very pale or dark
Signs of infection (like pus or fever)

FAQS
-
The results of dermal fillers usually last 6 to 18 months, depending on the type of filler used, the treatment area, and how your body metabolizes it. Areas with more movement (like the lips) may break down filler faster than less mobile areas like the cheeks.
-
Most patients experience only mild discomfort during treatment. Fillers often contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, and your provider may also use a topical numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable.
-
Botox relaxes muscles to smooth dynamic wrinkles caused by facial movement (like frown lines), while fillers add volume to plump up the skin and smooth static wrinkles or enhance features like lips and cheeks. They’re often used together for full-face rejuvenation.
-
Common side effects are mild and temporary, including swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness. Serious complications are rare but can include lumps, asymmetry, or vascular issues. Choosing a qualified, experienced injector greatly reduces risks.
-
When done properly by a skilled provider, dermal fillers produce natural-looking results that enhance your features, not drastically change them. The goal is subtle improvement, not an artificial or “alien” look.
